Northern Winds Stable promotes a safe, fun and educational atmosphere for riders of all ages and levels.

I suggest in the beginning to take lessons at least once or twice a week. This gets the rider in EQUESTRIAN shape and also starts them in on a routine. It takes a lot of patience, time, and effort to be a good rider. Therefore, practice makes perfect. The more time spent in the saddle, the better.

Most of the riders here at NWS are riding for show. Show season starts in April and goes through October. During the winter months the riders are preparing for show season. If you are interested in showing, please talk to me as soon as possible. By January 1st, all horses must be in training for show season. Therefore if you are planning on leasing or purchasing a horse I will need to be notified as soon as possible. Leasing options go quickly as there are not that many horses available for lease. You can only go to horse shows and participate as a rider if you have a horse of your own or are leasing. I will do my best to help you find the horse that best fits the rider and your budget.

Showing is fun, but not for everyone. If you want to ride for pleasure, we certainly encourage that too!

Mandatory things you will need for lessons are: Riding pants, boots, riding gloves and a SEI approved riding helmet. You can purchase these through Northern Winds or I can refer you to places that you can purchase the items yourself. These items should be purchased by the third riding lesson. Not only is it for safety, but comfort as well.

Policy on scheduling and canceling: I like to try and stick to a schedule of the same days each week. I do know that sometimes this is not possible, and I will work around your schedule if needed. Lessons cost $30.00 each. You can pay in advance for package deals or you can pay for the lessons before it starts the day you are scheduled. I do require a cancellation policy. My time is important to me. I need 24 hrs notices when canceling. That gives us enough time to schedule someone else in at your time slot. If you do not cancel 24 hrs ahead of time, you will be still being charged for that lesson. Most lessons last 35 to 45 minutes. Everyone learns at a difference pace, everyones lessons are different.
